Cameron takes out back-to-back Una Paisley awards
The 2012 VWCA Presentation Night was held tonight at Caulfield Racecourse. Hosted by Pete Lazer, the event was attended by 260 people.
Plenty Valley skipper Jessica Cameron took out the prized Una Paisley Award for the Premier Firsts Player of the Year.
In one of the tightest counts in recent years, Cameron took out the award with 27 votes, just one vote ahead of Box Hill’s Anna Lanning, whilst EMP duo Briana Binch and Emily McIntyre finished equal third on 21 votes.
Cameron dominated the competition yet again hitting 530 runs at an average of 75. The win even more remarkable considering the VicSpirit and Australian Southern Stars player missed half of the season with representative duties.
The Sue Woolcock Award for the Premier Seconds Player of the Year went to Brighton District all-rounder Lauren Wood.
Wood finished on 46 votes, well clear of her nearest rivals - Napoleons/Sebastopol’s Beth Taylor (33) and Coburg’s Catherine Morrow (32).
An amazing effort by Riverside’s Kerry Johnson who claimed her fourth consecutive One Day Shield batting and bowling average awards. Johnson’s batting average was an astonishing 486.
The fourth Premier Firsts Team of the Season was named with Box Hill co-captain Meg Lanning named skipper. Brunswick Park’s Elyse Villani was selected in the team for the fourth time, the most of any VWCA player.
The team in batting order is:
1. Meg Lanning (Captain) – Box Hill
2. Elyse Villani – Brunswick Park
3. Jessica Cameron – Plenty Valley
4. Emma Inglis – Brunswick Park
5. Emily McIntyre – Essendon Maribyrnong Park
6. Kate Dempsey – Box Hill
7. Anna Lanning – Box Hill
8. Candace Hulett (Wicket Keeper) – Essendon Maribyrnong Park
9. Kath Hempenstall – Brunswick Park
10. Emma Kearney - Essendon Maribyrnong Park
11. Laura Shaw – Box Hill
12th Molly Strano - Essendon Maribyrnong Park
